70 and over: part of your bill comes back to you
Quebec pays back part of what you spend on keeping up your home, and our exterior work qualifies. Here's what you need to know, plainly.
What it is
The tax credit for home-support services for seniors is a Revenu Québec program. It's for people 70 and over living in Quebec, owners or renters — whatever their level of autonomy. It applies to the cost of certain services provided at their home.
The rate is 40% of eligible expenses in 2026. That's a ceiling: it can be reduced above a certain family income, and your tax return is what settles it. The credit is refundable — you get it even if you owe no tax.
What qualifies with us
Revenu Québec files this work under "outdoor maintenance services". Four of our services are named there outright:
- Gutter cleaning
- Window cleaning
- Leaf removal
- Putting up and taking down a seasonal shelter (Tempo)
The winter close-up — hoses drained, taps shut off, furniture stored — is outdoor upkeep of the same kind, though it isn't named as such on the official list. Worth confirming with your return.
The service, not the goods
Revenu Québec is explicit: only the cost of the services qualifies, not the cost of the products needed to provide them. In practice: the work of putting up your shelter counts, the shelter itself doesn't; fitting anchors counts, the anchors we supply don't.
An example
A $129 window cleaning can come out to about $77 once the credit is applied.
$129 less 40% = $77.40. As everywhere on this site, $129 is a price before taxes. Your actual rate depends on your family income.
How to claim it
- 1Keep the itemized invoice. We provide one for every service, with the work done and the amount.
- 2Claim the credit on your Quebec income tax return, on Schedule J.
- 3You can do it yourself or hand it to your accountant.
If you live in a private seniors' residence, the rules differ: the calculation starts from your lease, not from service invoices like ours.
